Ejpovice (German Eipowitz ) is a municipality with 675 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the Plzeňský kraj region (Czech Republic).

location

The village is located west of Rokitzan , near the lake of the same name and a nature reserve.

history

The area was populated as early as 300 BC, the first written evidence comes from the 11th and 12th centuries, when the village belonged to the Pilsen citizen Epem. In 1331 Kronrad von Dobrzan bought the village and donated it to the Maria Magdalena Hospital in Pilsen .

In the 14th century, a protective castle was built on the trade route from Bavaria to Bohemia. The village now also passed through several hands, including the Lords of Schwanberg , in 1398 it belonged to Benesch von Ejpovic, in 1505 Stanislaus von Paulsdorf (Staněk z Pavlovic). 1537 sold the Lords Totschnik from Křimice (Točníkové z Křimic) Ejpovice to the city of Pilsen. Ore mining began in the village in the 17th century, and processing took place in a water hammer mill.

The city was divided between Rokitzan and Pilsen at that time. This split is still visible today. The "Pilsner part" consists of baroque buildings, while the "Rokitzaner part" was built in the Renaissance style .
