history

Sternberg Castle

The first written mention of the village comes from 1379. In 1387 Heinrich von Elsterberg had a castle built, which he made into one of his seats. The castle changed hands several times, in 1398 it belonged to Jan Žid z Vetlé and in 1402 Wenzel von Schwanberg was lord of the castle. He was followed in 1410 by Něpr Duč and from 1439 by the Harant family. In 1498 Zbyňek von Buchov bought the manor including Volduchy and parts of the villages Přívětice , Kříše, Stupno, Chomle and Darová. A year later it belonged to Bohuslav von Svinař. Since 1661 the castle was called desolate.

In 1673 Maximilian František bought Boryn ze Lhoty Březina and in 1682 Innocent z Bubna followed. In 1758 the secret councilor and treasurer Johann von Sternberg (1713–1798) bought Březina. After his death, his son Joachim inherited the estate. He had a castle built between 1790 and 1808. In 1808 Joachim's brother Kaspar Maria took over the inheritance. Joachim and Kaspar Maria von Sternberg carried out agricultural experiments on the cultivation of wild plants and foreign crops. A park with exotic flora was created around the castle. In 1810 the castle ruins were converted into an arbor .

In the 1930s, the actor Vlasta Burian stayed in the castle during his vacation, which belonged to the Counts of Sternberg until 1939.

In the 1980s a forestry school was set up in the castle. In 1990 the property was returned to the Sternbergers in restitution, and since then Count Zdeněk Šternberk has been the lord of the castle, who also owns Český Šternberk Castle .
