The Emanuel-Felke-Gymnasium (EFG) is a secondary school founded in Bad Sobernheim in 1961 .

history

The current school building on Poststrasse was moved into in 1961. The grammar school has been named after the Protestant pastor Emanuel Felke , who developed the Felke cure between 1915 and 1925 since May 15, 1996 . From the 2008/09 school year, the school was gradually converted into a G8 grammar school. In the 2015/16 school year, the last class from G9 passed the final exams in March and the first class from G8 in July. The EFG focuses primarily on music at the orientation level (wind classes, orchestra, choir). In the intermediate level (from grade 8) a compulsory elective must be taken. You can choose from: natural sciences, computer science, a third foreign language (Spanish, Latin, French) and the subject of culture. In the upper level (10th – 12th grade) most subjects can be taken as advanced courses. Sports, fine arts, music and computer science can only be chosen as basic courses.

G8GTS

The EFG has been an all-day school since 2008. In the orientation level, you can still choose between half-day and full-day. Schoolchildren already pass the Abitur after 8 years of high school (instead of 8¾ years in G9). To change the school structure, the school authorities invested in a new, well-equipped library , a new modern gym and a spacious cafeteria . There has also been a change in the timetable: a class leader lesson takes place once a week and the subject of sport has also been expanded by increasing the number of lessons. From the 2014/15 school year onwards, it was switched to 60-minute lessons on a trial basis. This has not changed anything in terms of the duration of the subjects. The full day starts at 7.30 a.m. and ends at 3.30 p.m. The pupils also have the opportunity to deepen their interests in groups of inclinations. These inclination groups take place in cooperation with local sports clubs. During the lunch break there is not only the opportunity for schoolchildren to be active in sports and creativity, but the school also offers opportunities to retreat in the room of silence or in the library. Homework is usually done during school hours in the hours provided (Eva / Ast hours). Research work, reading assignments for reading and vocabulary still have to be done at home, but lessons end on Fridays at 1 p.m., so that the afternoon can be used for these tasks if desired.

Upper school

The upper level comprises grades 10 to 12, where MSS 10 describes the introductory phase, while MSS 11 to 12 represents the qualification phase. The grammar school is offering a zero course in French for the first time in the 2015/16 school year, so that it is also possible for Realschule students without a second foreign language to attend the upper level if they are authorized to do so. The choice of advanced courses is free, all subjects except sports, the artistic subjects and computer science can be chosen as advanced courses. In the compulsory method training, particular value is placed on scientific work, which is helpful when writing a technical paper or special learning achievement.

Vocational training upper level

A mandatory two-week internship takes place in grade 11. There is also regular information on career advice in cooperation with the local employment office in the upper level. In cooperation with the Dr. Wolfgang and Anita Bürkle Foundation, the Rotary Club Stromberg-Naheland and the Naturtalente Foundation Munich have the opportunity to participate in a one-day intensive seminar in which they can find out their strengths and talents individually.

Rides in high school

In grade 10, a trip is offered at the end of the school year with a pedagogical-cultural or pedagogical-sporting focus. In 2015 a boat trip was carried out with the entire grade on the Dutch IJsselmeer . In 2016 there was a trip with a sporting focus to South Tyrol . There are two destinations to choose from for 2017: Brussels or a sporting activity in the alpine region . In grade 12 there is a study trip, whereby the goals are determined by the master courses and the teachers. Destinations in recent years were for example: Prague , Hamburg , Berlin , Munich , Croatia , Rome , London . There are also one-day excursions to the concentration camps in Osthofen and Verdun, as well as additional trips. In 2015/16, for example, grade 13 was closed in Weimar ( Goethe and Schillerhaus , Bauhaus , Buchenwald concentration camp , Anna-Amalia library , attendance at a theater performance in the National Theater ) and grade 11 in Berlin and Munich.

activities

Each year either a school festival or project days take place. There is also an annual hiking day and the day of action for Rwanda . There are also numerous other events such as school concerts, musicals, ceilidh evenings, themed exhibitions in the foyer, reading competitions, history competitions, sports tournaments, theater and museum visits, a variety of excursions and an open day on which the school presents itself to the public. The school has had the title School Without Racism since 2015 . The school also offers intensive method training that sets different priorities in the respective levels (e.g. learning and working techniques as well as team development in the orientation level, presentation techniques in the intermediate level and scientific work in the upper level).

Rides in the orientation and intermediate level

There is an introductory trip in the orientation level and an educational trip at the beginning of the intermediate level. Year 7 pupils have been able to take a trip to England to Herne Bay / Whitstable ( Kent , Great Britain ) since 2013 to get to know the country (southern England and London ) and people (with host families). In grade 8 there is the opportunity to take part in a school exchange to Vélizy / France in order not only to visit nearby Paris and its sights, but also to experience everyday life in French families and actively use the French language in conversations with peers. From the school year 2018/19 the school will take part in a two-year Erasmus Plus program on the subject of "Fairytale and legendary Europe". The 14- and 15-year-old students work together with their peers from three other countries - Veijle (Denmark), Tilburg (Netherlands) and Onda (Spain) - in this project. A first meeting took place from November 12 to 16, 2018 in Bad Sobernheim . The focus was on regional fairy tales and legends .

Partner school

The Emanuel-Felke-Gymnasium has a school partnership in the Rhineland-Palatinate partner country Rwanda . Since 2003 it has been the secondary school E.S. (“Ecole Secondaire”) in Kirinda (Murambi sector). Once a year, the EFG school community collects money for ES Kirinda on the occasion of the Tagwerk campaign . In 2014 a donation amount of over 5000 € was collected.
