Emanuel Basler the Elder

Emanuel Basler (born January 15, 1826 in Friedland ; † October 11, 1903 in Simbach am Inn ) was a German sculptor who mainly created works in the neo-Gothic style for churches and chapels.

Life

In 1850 he emigrated to Vienna , Prague and Braunau am Inn as a journeyman . From 1854 to 1856 he worked for the Simbach painter and gilder Simon Daum. Emanuel Basler married Josefa Ehrensperger in 1857 and built a house with a studio in Simbach am Inn in 1874 . In the meantime he had also become a master sculptor, Basler's apprentice was Johann Huber, who later became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Together with his son Emanuel Basler the Younger , the father created over 20 altar fixtures in Bavaria and Austria.
