Enrico Cardinal Gasparri (born July 25, 1871 in Ussita , Macerata Province , Italy , † May 20, 1946 in Rome ) was an Italian clergyman , diplomat of the Holy See and cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Enrico Gasparri was a nephew of Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Gasparri , who signed the Lateran Treaty in 1929 . After studying theology and law in Nepi and Rome, he received his doctorate theologiae and Doctor iuris utriusque . On August 10, 1894, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Rome .

On November 13, 1915 he was by Pope Benedict XV. Appointed Apostolic Delegate in Colombia and Titular Archbishop of Sebastea on December 9 of the same year . He received his episcopal consecration on December 12, 1915, the later Cardinal Vittorio Amedeo Ranuzzi de 'Bianchi ; Co- consecrators were Donato Sbarretti , Assessor at the Congregation of the Holy Office , and Luigi Ermini , Bishop of Caiazzo . Gasparri became Internuncio on May 8, 1916 and Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia on July 20, 1917 . On September 1, 1920 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil .

In the consistory of December 14, 1925, Enrico Gasparri was appointed by Pope Pius XI. the cardinal created and received three days later as a cardinal priest , the titular church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola . In December 1933 Pius XI raised him. as Cardinal Bishop of Velletri , after he had appointed him as Prefect in May of the same year to the head of the Apostolic Signature . Cardinal Gasparri fulfilled this task until his death in 1946.
