The Eparchy of Cluj-Gherla ( lat. : Dioecesis Claudiopolitanus-Armenopolitanus Romenorum , Romanian : Eparhia de Cluj-Gherla ) is in Romania located Diocese of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church , headquartered in Cluj-Napoca . It covers the north-western part of Transylvania .
history
Pope Pius IX founded the diocese of Gherla, Armenopoli, Szamos-Ujvár with the Apostolic Constitution Ad Apostolicam Sedem on December 19, 1853 from cession of the Archdiocese of Făgăraş , to which it was also subordinated as a Suffragandiocese .
In 1924 the headquarters of the diocese was moved from Gherla to Cluj (Klausenburg) - hence the name diocese Cluj-Gherla .
With the Apostolic Constitution Solemni conventione of June 5, 1930, the diocese gave part of its territory to the diocese of Maramureş and took its current name.
