State :

The Erfurter Ring is a road ring that surrounds the Thuringian capital Erfurt partly as a motorway and partly as an expressway .

It was completed in 2007. The purpose of its construction was on the one hand to relieve the Erfurt city center and the Erfurt city ring and on the other hand the faster connection of the city to the motorway network.

construction

The Erfurter Ring consists of a section of the federal motorway 4 in the south (Erfurt - Erfurt-Vieselbach intersection), a section of the federal motorway 71 in the west and north (Erfurt - Erfurt-Nord intersection) and a section of the expressway in the east (Konrad-Adenauer Road) together. In the north there is the L 1052 as an expressway from the Erfurt-Nord junction to Bundesstraße 7 , which forms the southern section of the Ostring and leads to the Vieselbach junction on the A4. The B 7 has also been expanded into an expressway.

The Erfurter Ring has four lanes and six lanes in the area of the A 4. Only the short section between the Erfurt-Vieselbach and Mönchenholzhausen-Süd junctions has two lanes. In addition, the route is largely free of intersections, only in the local area of Linderbach and in the two-lane section there are a few level crossings.

meaning

After 1990, the largest commercial areas in Thuringia were built in the Erfurt Ring area. The focus of the settlements is the logistics industry, since every point in Germany can be supplied within six hours thanks to the central location. The largest logistics centers are the Vieselbach freight traffic center (including IKEA , DHL , Zalando , Redcoon ( Metro AG ), Norma ) and the Stotternheim international logistics center (including Netto Marken-Discount , Mare Logistik). A third logistics center has been built in Mittelhausen ( Koch, Neff and Volckmar ) since 2013 . The largest industrial area, Erfurter Kreuz, is located at the Erfurt motorway junction on the area of the Ichtershausen district of the municipality of Wachsenburg and the city of Arnstadt with companies such as Bosch Solar Energy and N3 Engine Overhaul Services . Office use dominates in Bindersleben in the vicinity of Erfurt Airport .

The southern section (A4) is used by around 50,000 to 55,000 vehicles every day, and the western and northern section (A 71) by around 20,000 to 25,000 vehicles. The section of the B 7 near Linderbach is used by between 25,000 and 30,000 vehicles (overlapping of circular and radial traffic). In contrast, the traffic load on the northeast section (B7 formerly L 1052) is significantly lower. Since the Erfurter Ring takes up all through traffic of the state capital, the federal roads 4 and 7 within the ring were abolished after its completion and stepped into district roads (the B 7 is now the K 16 and the B 4 is the K 35). While through traffic in the east-west direction had been able to use the A4 since the 1930s, the ring brought relief to the A4, especially for north-south through traffic from northern Thuringia. The traffic on the L 1056 from Sömmerda to the A 4, which runs parallel to the Ostring, also decreased significantly. The national roads within the ring were also nearly all graded to district roads except the southern continuation of the L 1052 by Linder Bacher cross to A-4-junction Erfurt East and three short sections south of the Steigerwald (L 3004 from Egstedter Grenzweg direction Arnstadt , L 1049 from Egstedter Grenzweg towards Stadtilm and L 2155 from Egstedt to Klettbach ).
