Erika Anna Kristina Kinsey , née Wiklund , (born March 10, 1988 in Nälden ) is a Swedish high jumper .

Life

Erika Kinsey grew up in Nälden. As a secondary school, she attended Dragonskolan in Umeå , the largest high school in Västerbotten , which is known for its athletics program, among other things. She studies sports ( physical education and corporate fitness ) at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg . In the summer of 2014, she married her American boyfriend and took his name.

Athletic career

Kinsey played ice hockey and soccer at a young age . In 2004 she won the high jump at the Swedish U18 Championships. At the 4th Youth World Championships in Marrakech , she was fifth with 1.82 m. At the Junior World Championships in Beijing in 2006 , she reached eighth place with 1.80 m. At the Junior European Championships 2007 in Hengelo she received the gold medal in the high jump with 1.82 m. In 2009 she was Swedish indoor champion with 1.87 m in Gothenburg .

From 2010 to 2013 she concentrated again on ice hockey and played in the highest Norwegian women's league, the Norska damhockeyligan . After an injury with a broken rib and punctured lung, she gave up playing ice hockey.

Back in the high jump, she achieved third place with her first participation in the Diamond League on July 9, 2015 at the Athletissima in Lausanne , with 1.94 m behind Anna Tschitscherowa and Ruth Beitia . At the European team championships in 2015, she improved her record to 1.97 m and thus qualified for the world championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated in the qualification.

In 2016, she finished eighth in the final at the World Indoor Championships in Portland and at the European Championships in Amsterdam she was eliminated from the qualification with a skipped 1.89 m. Also at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro she was eliminated from the qualification . In 2017 she qualified for the World Championships in London , but was eliminated from the qualification there with 1.85 m . In 2018 Kinsey came seventh at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England, and thirteenth at the European Championships in Berlin in the summer . At the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 2019 , she finished in seventh place.
