Ernst Christian Wilhelm Ludwig von Kurowski

Ernst Christian Wilhelm Ludwig von Kurowski (born August 23, 1766 in Bartenstein ; † June 14, 1831 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian major general and owner of the Rothgerken estate, which he sold to August Wilhelm Lobach shortly before his death.

Life

origin

The Kurowski family came to Prussia from Poland. Johann Christoph von Kurowski († 1725) was already a cavalry master under Elector Friedrich III in 1694 . His parents were Johann Ernst von Kurowski (* 1739) and his wife Joanne Luise Maria, née von Hohendorff . His father was heir to Groß-Schwaraunen (Bartenstein district) and a captain . D. of Infantry Regiment No. 14 . His brother Friedrich Moritz († 1832) took his leave as a major .

Military career

Kurowski came in 1781 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Zastrow" of the Prussian army . There he was on June 10, 1782 portepeefähnrich , on July 30, 1783 ensign and on December 2, 1786 second lieutenant . During the mobilization on May 12, 1790 he became 2nd  adjutant of his regiment chief , General von Voss , in 1791 he returned to the regiment. On November 3, 1793, he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and on May 3, 1794, he joined the new regiment chief Friedrich von Holstein-Beck as adjutant general . In 1794/95 he took part in the campaign in Poland and fought in the battles near Wilkowist and Gawnicki. For this he received on November 2, 1794 the order Pour le Mérite . On June 5, 1795 he was promoted to staff captain and on October 14, 1796 he came back to the regiment. On June 25, 1802 he was promoted to captain and appointed company commander in the regiment. During the Fourth Coalition War he took part in the Battle of Preussisch Eylau , was in the bombardment of Thorn and fought in the battles near Lomitten, Gollau and Königsberg. For Königsberg he received the Order of St. Vladimir .

After the Peace of Tilsit he was promoted to major on May 9, 1807 and on August 28, 1807 he was commander of the grenadier battalion "Schlieben", which consisted of the grenadier companies of the 1st and 2nd East Prussian Infantry Regiments. Kurowski received his departure on August 13, 1811 with the character of a lieutenant colonel and a salary of 500 thalers. He was also reserved for a post at the post office, but on November 14, 1811 he came to Prussia as a brigadier of the garrison and provincial invalid companies. On June 3, 1815 he was promoted to colonel and inspector of the invalids in Prussia. On April 14, 1820, he was made inactive with salary. On May 20, 1820 he received his retirement with 800 thalers pension and on September 26, 1820 the character of major general. He died on June 14, 1831 in Königsberg.

family

Kurowski married on May 17, 1793 in Königsberg Johann Friederike Meyer (1767-1836), a daughter of the preacher Meyer († before 1793). The couple had several children:

  • Henriette Franziska (* 1801) ⚭ Ernst von Portatius (1797–1827)
  • Friedrich Alexander (1802–1838), lieutenant
  • Gustav Albert (1803-1883), Lieutenant Colonel ret. D., last in the 1st Infantry Regiment ⚭ Friederike Louise Auguste von St. Ingbrecht (1815–1855)
