Karl von Voss

Karl von Voss (born May 11, 1726 in the county of Mark , † June 20, 1804 in Quedlinburg ) was a Prussian major general , chief of infantry regiment No. 11 and knight of the Pour le Mérite .

Life

Karl was the son of Moritz Leopold von Voss from the county of Mark and his wife, one of Schneid.

Military career

Voss went into Prussian service in 1745 and joined the "Neuwied" infantry regiment No. 41 . There he was on 19 January 1747 Ensign and on March 2, 1752 second lieutenant . As such he took part in the battles near Prague , Kolin , Kunersdorf , Liegnitz , Torgau , Reichenbach and Hof as well as the siege of Dresden during the Seven Years' War . In the course of the war Voss has since been on October 22, 1757 to first lieutenant , on May 26, 1760 to staff captain , and on 29 November 1760 to captain transported and company commander appointed. Voss was also wounded several times. A musket ball hit him in the head near Kolin and he was shot in the arm during the siege of Olomouc .

After the war he was promoted to major on February 2, 1767 and to lieutenant colonel on January 20, 1775 . He took part with his regiment in the campaign in 1778/79 and became a colonel on June 23, 1779 after the peace agreement . In 1783 he became the commander of the Gillern Infantry Regiment No. 16 . On March 1, 1786 he became chief of the infantry regiment "Rothkirch" No. 11 in Königsberg . On March 7, 1786, he was also appointed major general.

On June 7, 1789, Voss received the order Pour le Mérite from King Friedrich Wilhelm II at the review in Klingenbeil . The following year he was freed from the upcoming campaign and took over the business as governor of the Königsberg Fortress on behalf of the absent Lieutenant General Henckel von Donnersmarck . He also supervised the depot battalions there. On September 26, 1790, he dimitted with a pension of 1000 thalers . The pension was increased by 200 thalers on January 23, 1791.

He died on June 20, 1804 and was buried four days later in the cemetery of the Sankt-Blasii-Kirche in Quedlinburg.

Voss married on January 23, 1763 in Naumburg (Saale) Wilhelmine Konstanze Friederike von Trebra (born August 16, 1739 in Braunsroda; † October 22, 1826 at Kyffhäuser ), the daughter of a Saxon district councilor. The couple had the following children:
