Ernst Gustav von Held (born October 5, 1766 in Guhrau , † January 13, 1851 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and first commandant of the Invalidenhaus .

His parents were Johann Christoph von Held (* April 4, 1723; † September 20, 1785) and his wife Charlotte Henriette Wilhelmine, born von Hake (* August 13, 1740; † March 23, 1808) from the Ütz family. Military career

Held came to Berlin on June 17, 1780 as a cadet . On April 11, 1784 he became a private corporal in the 1st Battalion of the Guard . There he was promoted to ensign on November 20, 1787 and second lieutenant on September 28, 1792 . As such, Held fought in the sieges of Mainz and Landau as well as in the battle near Trippstadt . During the siege of Mainz he was used as a tranche adjutant . By October 19, 1805 he rose to captain ( patent from October 10, 1802) and company commander in the infantry regiment "von Larisch" . During the Fourth Coalition War , Held was shot in the left thigh at the Battle of Jena , whereupon he was made inactive in November 1806.

After the war he was reinstated as a major in the infantry on November 28, 1808 . During the Wars of Liberation , Held fought in the battles near Hagelberg and Salke and took part in the blockade of Wittenberg and Magdeburg . At Hagelberg he acquired the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of Saint Anne II. Class. During that time, on August 1, 1813, he became the commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 7th Kurmärk Landwehr Infantry Regiment, and on April 2, 1815, he was appointed regimental commander. On his 60th anniversary in service, Held received the Lieutenant General on March 30, 1844, and the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on July 25, 1844. On February 15, 1820 Held married Karoline Maria Katharina Friederike Charlotte von Bredow (December 1, 1779 - August 2, 1852) from the Hage family, widow of Johann Friedrich August von Salisch († May 26, 1818). The couple had a daughter, Malvine, who died unmarried.
