Ernst von Blumenstein (born February 11, 1796 in Rotenburg an der Fulda , † August 25, 1875 in Lichtenthal near Baden-Baden ) was the electoral Hessian chamberlain and chief forest master , owner of the small estate Falkenberg near Wabern in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district and Founder of the Barons von Blumenstein family.

origin

He was the son of the paraged Landgrave Karl Emanuel von Hessen-Rotenburg from his extramarital relationship with Lucie Amalie Juliane Struve (* 1769 in Kassel ) and thus half-brother of the last Landgrave of Hessen-Rotenburg, Victor Amadeus . His mother Lucie Struve was the daughter of the regimental quartermaster Johann Conrad Struve († 1782 in New York ) from Braunschweig and his Kassel-born wife Catharina Elisabeth Bettelhäuser († October 31, 1828 in Fulda ).

Life

Ernst was recognized by his father in 1811 . He entered the service of his relative, the Elector of Hesse , was promoted to Baron von Blumenstein and became Chamberlain and Chief Forester of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Rotenburg. The royal Prussian nobility was confirmed in May 1870 after the Electorate of Hesse had been annexed by Prussia in 1866 .

In 1829 he bought the small estate Falkenberg near Wabern with the Falkenberg Castle and the two manors Falkenberg and Rockshausen from his half-brother, the Hessen-Rotenburg Landgrave Victor Amadeus . In 1872 he sold the Falkenberg castle and estate to the musician and landowner Johann Ludwig Gebhard von Alvensleben . He moved to Baden-Baden and died three years later in nearby Lichtenthal.
