The Estadio Jesús Martínez “Palillo” (formerly Estadio Municipal ) is a sports stadium in Mexico City . It is part of the Ciudad Deportiva Magdalena Mixhuca sports complex .

history

The Mexican government had the stadium built in 1964. The field is open, the stands on both sides are covered. There is a total of 6160 spectators.

For the 1968 Summer Olympics , the spectator capacity was increased by 1200, the seats were created with temporary stands at both ends of the field. During the Olympics it was the venue for the hockey games . For this purpose, the playing field was adapted based on the regulations of the Fédération Internationale de Hockey .

After the Olympic Games, the stadium was used as a multi-purpose sports arena for a period of time. It reopened on November 23, 1983 under the name of its main sponsor, comedy actor Jesús Martínez “Palillo”. The stadium is currently used as the home ground of three football teams, all of which are represented in the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA).

At the turn of the year 2018/2019, the stadium was used to accommodate migrants from El Salvador , Guatemala , Honduras and Nicaragua .
