The EuroCup 2019/20 is 18 . Playing time of the EuroCup in men's club basketball. It should not be confused with the FIBA Europe Cup , which is hosted by the continental association FIBA Europe .
Similar to the superordinate competition EuroLeague 2019/20 and as in the previous season, the competition has a name sponsor with the Greek food company Vivartia and its snack brand 7DAYS, so the full name of the competition is 7DAYS EuroCup .
The competition has been upgraded for this season, as in addition to the winner, the defeated finalist will for the first time receive the right to start next year's EuroLeague season (2020/21). In the 2019/20 season, the field of participants in the EuroCup will continue to compete roughly on par with that of the Basketball Champions League for the second most important European Cup competition in basketball.
mode
As in the previous year, 24 teams take part in the EuroCup in the preliminary round. The preliminary round will be in round-robin mode English round robin played with home and away in four groups of six teams each. The two most unsuccessful teams in each preliminary round group that were last placed in sporting terms are eliminated, while the other teams reach the second group stage of the 16 best teams.
Here, too, the game continues in four groups, each with four teams, with the teams staggered according to their position in the preliminary round, so that no group opponents in the preliminary round also play against each other in the preliminary round. The first and second placed teams in each intermediate round qualify for the quarter-finals, while the remaining intermediate round teams are eliminated.
From the quarter-finals onwards, the play-off mode “ best-of-three ” continues, with the better-placed team in the intermediate round initially having home rights. The first team to achieve two wins in a play-off series will advance to the next round.
For a graphical illustration of the mode, see also on the website of the competition (Eurocupbasketball.com: Format)
