European Ladies Team Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Ladies Team Cup (ELTC) was a table tennis competition for women’s national teams that are members of the European Table Tennis Association ETTU . It has been held annually in January since 1994. For the first time, higher prizes could be won in a women's tournament. The best European teams were invited. Six teams initially competed in two groups of three, each against each. The first and second in each group reached the semi-finals. A team fight was carried out according to the Corbillon Cup system, that is, a maximum of four singles and one doubles were played. If a team had scored three points, the fight was stopped.

It was criticized that several teams did not appear in the strongest line-up.

Nicole Struse was unable to participate because of an illness . Jie Schöpp did not achieve her normal form. In the group games, the German team won against England and lost to Russia (first defeat of the German women's national team after 22 wins in a row). That was enough to place 2.
