Paint bags or paint eggs are projectiles filled with paint. They are used, for example, in demonstrations and protest rallies against political opponents or police officers, as well as against objects or buildings.
Use of paint bags
Throwing is intended to contaminate the opponent or the target object, whereby the protest and, in some cases, disregard for the target of the throw is to be expressed or property damage is caused. The paint bags consist of small, sealed plastic bags, water bombs or previously emptied chicken eggs that are filled with paint or tinting paint . Depending on the stability of the paint container used, the angle and speed of the impact and the weight of the bullet, property damage or personal injury can occur at the target in addition to soiling.
Legal classification
Throwing paint bags is a punishable offense, as any soiling represents damage to property according to Section 303 of the German Criminal Code . If a person is hit, there is bodily harm according to §§ 223 ff. StGB. In addition, further facts such as breach of the peace can be fulfilled. The right of assembly is also affected.
Known incidents
- On June 2, 1967, paint bags flew at the demonstration at the Schöneberg Town Hall and the Deutsche Oper Berlin to protest against the visit of the Shah of Persia, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi , who gained notoriety through the death of the student Benno Ohnesorg and is still debated today the circumstances of his death give cause.
- In May 1999, the then Foreign Minister was Joschka Fischer in protest against the NATO -Use on the Green party conference in Bielefeld from an autonomous pelted with a red paint bomb and suffered a while eardrum -Riss right ear.
- In 2008, paint bags were thrown at the Carlofts in Berlin-Kreuzberg several times, as these are seen by opponents as a symbol of the advancing gentrification in the neighborhood .
- On the night of September 25, 2008, strangers threw several bags of paint and glasses filled with paint at the villa of ex- Spiegel boss Stefan Aust in the Hamburg district of Blankenese . According to a letter of confession that the daily Hamburger Morgenpost received the next day, the reason for this was the start of the Aust film The Baader-Meinhof Complex , which stated: “ The film is a continuation of the contortions and lies of Stefan Aust, he visualizes the psychopathological patterns he designed for the comrades of the RAF in a powerful way ”.
- During the EuroMayDay demonstration on May 1st , 2009, the Detlev-Rohwedder-Haus in Berlin, the seat of the finance ministry , was pelted with around 60 bags of paint in protest against the economic situation.
- In the environment of the animal welfare organization PETA , colored bags were used against wearers of fur coats . The color used is supposedly not washable and thus makes the fur coats unsaleable.
- During the protest against shops selling Thor Steinar clothing , colored eggs and colored bags were used several times.
- In connection with the NSU trial, right-wing extremists attacked the law firm of co- plaintiff Angelika Lex and a house in which anti-racists lived with faeces and paint bags.
