Faris Endris Rahoma (born July 10, 1975 in Styria ) is an Austrian actor and screenwriter with Egyptian roots.

Life

Faris Endris Rahoma was born to a Styrian and an Egyptian. His father came to Weiz from Egypt in 1973 , the family moved to Vienna a year after Faris Endris Rahoma was born , where he grew up in Hernals and Ottakring and attended the Hernalser Gymnasium Geblergasse after primary school. At the age of 16 he dropped out of school to study drama at the Prayner Conservatory . He completed his training in 1995 with a diploma.

Faris Endris Rahoma already played theater as a child, from 1985 to 1989 he had children's roles at the Volksoper Vienna , later he played at the children's theater Firlefanz and at Vienna's English Theater, among others . He made his film debut in 1985 in Steig aus dein Luftballon by director Jörg A. Eggers (under the pseudonym Arni Liebenberg), where he played a leading role as Michi Fischer. While on vacation in Egypt, he met the director Youssef Chahine , who cast him in the film Destiny . The film was invited to the 1997 Cannes Film Festival for the Palme d'Or. In 2008, he had a leading role as El Walid in the Syrian cinema production Èl Mahed by Mohammed Malas. Since 2007 he has worked with the Austrian-French-Belgian artist collective Superamas , with whom he toured Europe and North America with joint stage productions. In 2011 he appeared in the German-language premiere of Paul Schrader's Cleopatra Club , directed by Rupert Henning, as Colonel Salah Ziadeh at the StadtTheater walfischgasse .

Together with Arman T. Riahi and Aleksandar Petrović , he developed the script for the television series Neue Wiener in 2011 . After the production company went bankrupt, the idea was implemented as the movie Die Migrantigen , in which he also played the lead role alongside Petrović. The film was awarded the audience prize at the Max Ophüls Film Festival , among others, and at the 2018 Romy Awards, it received the Romy in the Best Screenplay category for the film . The premiere of the stage version took place in September 2019 at the Wiener Kammerspiele of the theater in der Josefstadt .

He has worked as a presenter and journalist for ORF since 2005, including for the show ohne Namen (2005–2006), please? (2007), Heimat, Fremdde Heimat (2008), Konkret (2007–2011) and the follow-up program Today concrete (2011–2017) and Weltjournal ( Das Mekka Business ) and DOKeins (for example for the episodes Der Supermensch: Die Jagd nach dem perfect me and help, police! Faris Rahoma wants to be a cop ). In 2019 he stood in front of the camera for the fifth season of the ORF television series Vorstadtweiber , in which he played the role of the hairdresser Raoul.
