Before the 2015 regional reform, Fatubessi had an area of 35.53 km². Now it is 34.95 km². The Suco is in the north of the Hatulia administrative office. To the west is the Suco Aculau , north of the Suco Urahou , to the east the Sucos Mau-Ubo , Fatubolo and Manusae and south of the Suco Ailelo . The southern border is formed by the Eahora river , the southern part of the western border of the Gamerama and the north-western tip of Fatubessi is framed by the Guradi and Acolaco rivers . The rivers all belong to the Lóis system .
Between Guradi and Acolaco are the places Abat and Buburia , in the north the villages Oeleo and Matanoba ( Matanova ), in the east Railete and Betorema , in the south Assulau ( Asulau ) and Bono ( Boro ), in the west Lebumeo and Sabsoi ( Sapso ) and in the The center of the nearby settlements of Maukali , São Francisco , Urtali and Nacahun . This cluster of settlements is sometimes referred to as the administrative center of Sucos as Fatubessi . There is a preschool, a primary school ( Escola Primaria No. 206 ), a makeshift helipad and a medical station. There are no major roads connecting the Suco with the outside world, which is why the ballot boxes for the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2007 had to be brought to the polling station in the primary school by horses and porters and then picked up again.
In the suco there are the six Aldeias Assulau Hautete , Lebumeo , Matanoba , Peregrinação , Sabsoi and São Francisco .
Residents
The Suco has 4,754 inhabitants (2015), of which 2,440 are men and 2,314 women. The population density is 136.0 inhabitants / km². There are 756 households in the Suco. Almost 99% of the population list Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. Small minorities speak Habun or Mambai .
history
In 1976 the Indonesian invaders also reached Hatulia. In Fatubessi there was a resistance base ( base de apoio ) against the Indonesians, which existed from 1976 to 1978. It was the headquarters for the Sector Fronteira Norte . When the attack on Fatubessi by the Indonesian Battalion 611 began, the population was to be evacuated in two directions. Once to the southwest to the Taroman mountain , the other to the southeast towards Beco and then on to the Ucecai mountain in the Suco of the same name ( Zumalai administrative office ). The first group was picked up by the Indonesian military in the Ermera administrative office and interned in Fatubessi. The second group crossed the Loumea River near Beco and reached the lowlands in the south of Zumalai. But in January 1978 they came under fire from the Indonesians on the Mola River . Those captured in the resistance base were taken to a transit camp in Fatubessi, where there was an acute shortage of food. Starvation was commonplace.
During the 1999 riots in Hatulia between January 27 and September the pro-Indonesian militias Darah Merah , Aitarak and Pancasila operated together with the Indonesian military against supporters of East Timor’s independence. Between May 10 and 14, Fatubessi and other sucos were attacked in Hatulia.
