The Ferchauer Forst is a nature reserve in the municipality of Kuhfelde in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0049 is 40.30  hectares . It is part of the 718-hectare FFH area "forest Ferchau in Salzwedel" and borders completely to the conservation area "Salzwedel-Diesdorf". The area has been under protection since July 5, 1978. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel.

The nature reserve is located southwest of Salzwedel . The nature reserve, which consists of three sub-areas, is partially protected by natural oak and hornbeam forests with holly . All three sub-areas are each at the edge of a contiguous forest area and border on agricultural areas . The forests that are not under nature protection are often shaped by spruce forests. In the western part of the nature reserve, contaminated wastewater from a drilling mud dump and bark beetle infestation have led to the death of the spruce stands. These areas have been rejuvenated with English oak and beech . In the eastern section, where the natural forest communities are best developed, the historical form of agricultural use as Wölbacker can still be seen under the old wood .

The shrub layer in the forests is u. a. formed by chickweed such as the real chickweed , forest flutter grass , three-veined chickweed and German honeysuckle . Sometimes woodruff , forest ball grass and many-flowered white root can also be found.

The forest areas are habitat for numerous species of birds . More than 30 species of breeding birds were found, including a high density of cavity-nesting birds such as Dove , woodpecker and Star . Honey buzzard and common raven also occur here . In addition, the nature reserve is a habitat for pine marten and fallow deer and wild boar .
