The Kalbescher Werder near Vienau is a nature reserve in the town of Kalbe (Milde) in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0046 is 134.68  hectares . It is congruent with the FFH area of the same name . The area has been under protection since July 5, 1978. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel.

The nature reserve is located in the south of the Kalbescher Werder moraine landscape, immediately west of Vienau. It places a forest area on sandy ground under protection. Depending on the location, the forests appear as pine dune forests on extremely dry inland dunes up to scramble forest in wet source areas. The herb layer of the pine forests is formed by willow , grass and common pasque flower. Chance are silver grasslands to find. In the transition from the sand areas lined with pine trees to the lower Milde valleyis English oak-hornbeam forest with chickweed , Deutsches honeysuckle , Solomon's seal , Zweiblättriger Schattenblume and Lamium Galeobdolon predominant. In many cases, downy birch can also be found. In the lowland with the spring outlets in the area of ​​the nature reserve, alder - ash forest and black cherry-ash forest are predominant. The herb layer is made up of common carnation , swamppippau , spotted orchid and single berry . In heavily waterlogged areas, you can also find quarry forest with alder and peat birch trees. Here the herb layer is determined by swamp hairs , swamp fern , swamp blood-eye and swamp calla . Also, spring flowering bulbs such as wood anemone , sheep herb and shade flowers can be found in the nature reserve.

The nature reserve is characterized by a diverse fauna . So here are u. a. Ermine , weasel , badger and bats ( pipistrelle and lesser whiskered bat ) are native. The avifauna is u. a. represented by honey buzzard , goshawk , red kite , tawny owl , goat milker , middle woodpecker , woodcock , ortolan and woodlark . Various amphibians , including crested newt and pond newt , tree frog and natterjack toad , also occur here. The nature reserve is also a habitat for dragonflies , etc. a. Banded demoiselle , glossy rush damsel , bird azure damsel and banded darter .

The nature reserve borders on agricultural areas in the north-west and south , in the south-west, north and east on further forest areas and in the east on the residential areas of Vienau.
