Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Ferdinand von Hirschfeld (born January 5, 1792 in Halberstadt , † December 25, 1863 in Pansin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

His parents were the Prussian general of the infantry Karl Friedrich von Hirschfeld (1747-1818) and his first wife Karoline Friederike Philippine, born von Faggyas (1761-1795). Another three of his brothers also became generals: Alexander Adolf (1787–1858), Moritz (1790–1859), Karl (1800–1878).

Military career

Hirschfeld visited from 1802, the cadet school in Berlin and entered 1804 as Junker into the Regiment Garde walk the Prussian army one. When the Fourth Coalition War broke out in 1806 , he carried the flag of the battalion from Potsdam to Jena when marching out , during the battle of Jena and on the retreats until the surrender near Prenzlau. When it became clear that the flag was about to be handed over, he burned the pole and hid the flag on his bare chest from the French. The fourteen-year-old Junker carried the flag first to Brandenburg an der Havel , then to the King in Königsberg . With his extremely limited funds and a passport to Pomerania, he wandered to East Prussia on foot . So it took almost two months until he reached Königsberg. After handing the flag over to the king, he was re-employed as a junker in the guard on foot. After passing the exam, he became a porter ensign in 1808 and a second lieutenant in 1809 . From September 23, 1813 to April 1814, he was assigned to the Corps under von Colomb . For the battle of Großgörschen he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. He rose further and became in 1815 lieutenant prime minister , captain and company commander in 1816 , major in 1828 and lieutenant colonel in 1839 .

In 1840 Hirschfeld left the 1st Guards Regiment on foot , to which he had belonged since 1806. Hirschfeld was entrusted with the command of the Emperor Franz Grenadier Regiment on March 30, 1840 and appointed commander on September 10, 1840 with the promotion to colonel . At the end of March 1846 he was given command of the 3rd Landwehr Brigade, in 1847 Major General and in 1848 Commander of the 1st Guard Infantry Brigade and Commander of Potsdam ad interim. In 1851 he was commander of the 3rd division and in 1852 was promoted to lieutenant general. Yet in 1856 he became commander of the 12th Division and in the same year on his request with pension and award of the character as General of Infantry to the disposition provided. He was accepted into the Order of St. John on January 18, 1838. On June 24, 1858, he became a legal knight of the order after receiving the accolade. He died on December 25, 1863.

Hirschfeld married Ottilie von Puttkamer from the Pansin house (1824-1860) on July 14, 1848 in Pansin. The following children were born from the marriage:
