Karl Friedrich Hermann von Hirschfeld (born August 5, 1800 in Potsdam , † February 13, 1878 in Ehrenbreitstein ) was a Prussian major general and commander of Glogau .

Life

Karl was a son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Karl Friedrich von Hirschfeld and his second wife Henriette, born von der Schulenburg , widowed von Fuchs (1765–1800). His stepbrothers were the Prussian general of the cavalry Alexander Adolf (1787-1858) and the two generals of the infantry Moritz (1790-1859) and Ferdinand (1792-1863).

Military career

Hirschfeld graduated from high school in Brandenburg an der Havel and then attended the Berlin Cadet House . On May 9, 1818 he was transferred to the 25th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a porter officer and was promoted to secondary lieutenant until the beginning of August 1820 . In 1825/28 Hirschfeld was sent to the General War School for further training . With a patent from April 17, 1819, he was transferred to Frankfurt (Oder) on May 13, 1830 in the 12th Infantry Regiment . In mid-May 1832 he was promoted to prime lieutenant , in 1833/35 he was also a teacher at the division school of the 5th division and from 1835 to 1837 he was in the topographic office . With his promotion to captain on May 24, 1842, Hirschfeld became chief of the 2nd company and was promoted to captain 1st class by the end of March 1846. He was then appointed on February 20, 1849 as a major commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 20th Landwehr Regiment. In the same capacity, he was transferred to the 20th Infantry Regiment in Torgau on October 23, 1851 . There he became a lieutenant colonel on July 12, 1855 .

On May 23, 1857, Hirschfeld was placed in command of Pillau , two months later in this position à la suite of the 20th Infantry Regiment and at the end of October 1857 with the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class excellent. From June 8, 1858, he was employed as a commandant of Glogau and on November 22, 1858, he was promoted to colonel . He was on October 3, 1859 with the Red Eagle Order III. Awarded a ribbon in the class and received the character of Major General on October 18, 1861 on the occasion of the coronation celebrations of King Wilhelm I. On April 15, 1862, Hirschfeld was put up for disposal with the pension of a brigade commander .

After his departure, he worked from January 15, 1867 as deputy president of the "National Thank You Foundation for Veterans". He died on February 13, 1878 in Ehrenbreitstein.

family

He married Bertha Freytag (1803-1838), the daughter of the mayor, on March 17, 1829 in Frankfurt (Oder). The couple had several children:

  • Elise Bertha Ehrengard (1833–1922)
  • Karl Heinrich Hugo (1836–1864)

After the death of his first wife, he married on May 5, 1839 in Zossen Philippine von Ruville (1818–1862), with whom he had the following children:
