Fertile is a small town (with the status " City ") in Worth County in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 Fertile had 370 inhabitants, the number of which had decreased to 364 by 2013.

Fertile is located in northern Iowa on the left bank of the Winnebago River , which forms part of the Mississippi River basin through the Shell Rock River , the Cedar River and the Iowa River . The Iowa- Minnesota border runs approximately 30 km north.
The geographical coordinates of Fertile are 43 ° 15'52 "north latitude and 93 ° 25'06" west longitude. The city extends over an area of 2.43 km² and is the largest town within the Fertile Township .

About seven kilometers east of Fertile runs north-south on Interstate Highway 35 , which is the shortest connection from Minneapolis to Des Moines. The Iowa State Highway 9 extends in the east-west direction along the northern edge of Fertile. All other roads are subordinate country roads, some unpaved roads and inner-city connecting roads.
With the Mason City Municipal Airport there is a regional airport 21 km southeast. The nearest major airport is Des Moines International Airport (214 km south).
Sports
Every year there is a bicycle race in Fertile, in which cycling clubs from all over the state participate and which is attended by around 6,000 spectators. Fertile has a cycling club with 16 members together with Hanlontown. In 2009 the place Joice, on June 14, 2010 Forest City and Ventura joined the cycling club.

The place was founded in 1868 by the Canadian William Rhodes with the installation of a mill. In 1908 Fertile was incorporated as an independent municipality.
