Fyodor Grigorievich Katkov ( Russian Фёдор Григорьевич Катков * May 22 jul. / 4. June  1901 greg. In Botschagowka, Tobolsk , Russian Empire ; †  thirtieth October 1992 in Moscow , Russia ) was a Soviet-Russian lieutenant general and hero of the Soviet Union .

Life

Fyodor Grigoryevich Katkow was born in the village of Botschagowka in Tobolsk Governorate (today in Lebjaschjewski rajon in Kurgan Oblast ). In 1908 he moved to Lebjaschje with his family . In August 1919 he was drafted into the White Army , from which he deserted twice. From February 1920 he served in the Red Army and took part in the Russian Civil War in the Far East of Russia (including the Far Eastern Republic ) . In 1920 he joined the RKP (B), which later became the CPSU .

From April 1930 to May 1933 he studied at the Frunze Military Academy and was then employed as chief of staff of the 135th Infantry Brigade in the Kiev military district. In July 1938 he was appointed chief of staff of the 36th Light Tank Brigade. In 1940 he graduated from the Academy of the General Staff of the Red Workers 'and Peasants' Army in Moscow. On June 4, 1940, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 8th Mechanized Corps. In this position he took part in the tank battle near Dubno-Lutsk-Rivne at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and was appointed commander of the 12th Panzer Division (6th Army) on the Southwest Front in July 1941 . From February 1942 he taught at the Military Academy of the Armored and Mechanized Troops of the Red Army .

In June 1943 he became deputy commander of the 3rd Guards Mechanized Corps, with which he took part in the Belgorod-Kharkov Operation and the Battle of the Dnieper . From November 1943 to September 3, 1945 he commanded the 7th Mechanized Corps (inter alia in Operation Jassy-Kishinew , Lake Balaton Offensive , Prague Operation , Dnepr-Carpathian Operation ) and in the Pacific War .

For the skillful command of the mechanized corps, the exemplary execution of combat missions at the front and the courage and heroism, Fyodor Katkow was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on September 8, 1945.

After the war he stayed in the army and was released from active service in 1953 and retired. He was married to Jelena Ulyanovna Katkowa. Katkow was an honorary citizen of Prague .
