history
Apparently, Sheikh Yasmin ibn Muhammad Al Thani used a white and red flag with the current structure as early as 1855. Before that, the flag of Qatar was a simple red cloth. There have been several variants since then. The wine red that is common today was created by the action of the sun on the originally red color pigments that were used in the manufacture of the flag. Since the national flag was similar to the flag of Bahrain , this deviation was officially adopted in 1949.
