Aspect ratio: 1: 2
Officially accepted: 2nd June 1992

The flag of the Artsakh Republic is derived from the flag of Armenia . The republic is mainly inhabited by Armenians , but is internationally regarded as part of Azerbaijan .

The color of the flag symbolizes on the one hand the close cultural connection with Armenia , on the other hand the white fields indicate the geographical separation: on the left (i.e. in the west) the larger Armenia, on the right (i.e. in the east) the smaller Karabakh. The rectangles can also be interpreted as motifs of traditional Armenian carpets.
