Appearance and meaning
The horizontal white-red-yellow tricolor of South Ossetia corresponds to the flag of its Russian neighbor North Ossetia . Article 1 of the 1992 decree sets the aspect ratio at 1: 2, which is in keeping with Russian tradition. White stands for wisdom and the spiritual life of the nation, red for military vigilance and yellow for the well-being of the people.
