The coat of arms of South Ossetia

The coat of arms of South Ossetia corresponds to the coat of arms of North Ossetia except for the lettering. As in the case of the flag of South Ossetia , its similarity is intended to emphasize the bond with the Russian North Ossetia. The declaration of independence and the government are only recognized by Russia , Nicaragua , Venezuela and Nauru . All other states see the country as part of Georgia.

description

The round symbol shows a striding, golden big cat with black dots on golden hills in front of seven silver mountains and a red background. The sources refer to the cat as a snow leopard , although there were never snow leopards in the Caucasus , but rather leopards until their extinction , which would also match the yellow color. The disc has a white border with black ornaments on the outer edge. Separated from it by a thin black line, on the white border above is in Russian and below in Ossetian with black Cyrillic script Republic of South Ossetia (Russian: РЕСПУБЛИКА ЮЖНАЯ ОСЕТИЯ; osset .: РЕСПУБЛИКӔ ХУССАР ИРЫСТОН). Between the two inscriptions is a round emblem in which three segments in red, gold and silver interlock. White / silver symbolizes peace, red strength and energy, yellow / gold wealth. They are the national colors of Ossetia .

history

The coat of arms was created by Prince Vakhushti Bagrationi in 1735. The original drawing is in the Georgian manuscript collection in Tbilisi . Under the government of Ludwig Tschibirow , the separatist government of South Ossetia led an eagle with its wings holding the Wasamonga chalice , in the left claw the branch of an oak, hops and wheat and in the right claw a hoe. According to the Narten epic, these objects were given by God to the Narten, the mythical ancestors of the Ossetians. On his chest he wore the round emblem with the three segments in silver, gold and red. The eagle stood for generosity, courage and freedom. Hops stand for eternity, wheat for peace and prosperity. The Ossetian word Wasamonga means to teach the sacred . In the Narten epic, the goblet reveals lies and reveals the truth. It symbolizes justice and equality for all before the law. The emblem stands for eternal life, endless movement and everlasting change. As a symbol of the sun, it has three ends, which represents the trinity . This can be in the Christian sense, but also stand for God, man and nature, soul, body and spirit or past, present and future.
