Seal of Macau

The coat of arms of the Macau Special Administrative Region was introduced on December 20, 1999, when the sovereignty of Portugal was transferred to the People's Republic of China .

The “regional emblem”, the official Chinese name, is actually not a coat of arms, but a seal . The upper lettering on the white border reads: “ 中華人民共和國 澳門 特別 行政區 ” (German: “Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China”). The under lettering "Macau" is the Portuguese short form. The five yellow stars symbolize belonging to the Chinese mainland, below is a lotus blossom.

The example shown here is the small coat of arms with a banner and a brick crown with five towers, the symbol of a capital of an overseas province . The large coat of arms shows a more elaborate crown and a golden armillary sphere .
