The emblem of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus ( Turkish : Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti Resmi Amblemi ) was designed by İsmet Güney based on the coat of arms of the Republic of Cyprus . The emblem was given its current form on March 27, 2007. The specifications and use of the emblem are regulated in Section 94 of the Constitution of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus .

A silver dove lying vertically to the left with a green olive branch in its beak is depicted on a gold shield . A green laurel wreath surrounds the shield, on which lies a crescent moon with a star . The year 1983 is between the shield and the lying crescent moon.

meaning

Dove

The pigeon's wings are spread and the head is directed upwards, it is about to take off. It represents the cosmopolitan ideal of the Turkish Cypriot population and the constant striving for progress.

The shield is based on the shield in the coat of arms of the Ottoman Empire .

Olive branch

There are five olives on the olive branch, they represent the five districts of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus: Lefkoşa , Girne , Gazimağusa , Güzelyurt and İskele . The olive branch represents the will of the Turkish Cypriots for peace.

Laurel wreath

The laurel wreath is a symbol of the island's culture, it was used in traditional rituals and appeared in legends.

On November 15, 1983, the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was proclaimed.

Crescent Moon & Star

The crescent moon and the star symbolize the Cypriot Turks.
