The coat of arms of the Maldives is dominated by a coconut palm behind a crescent moon with a star. In the heraldic sense, it is a symbol as it does not have a coat of arms .

Symbolism of the coat of arms

The palm represents the nature and economy of the Maldives. The export of copra played a major role in the past.

The star-studded faceted crescent symbolizes the state religion, Islam .

The palm is flanked by two flags of the state .

Below the crescent is the writing Ad – Dawlat Al – Mahaldheebiyya ( Arabic الدولة المحلديبية), which translates as State of a Thousand Islands or State of the Maldives . (The state is made up of about 2,000 islands.)
