The coat of arms of the Jordanian king serves as the coat of arms of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan .

It is framed by a coat of arms that is red on the outside and white on the inside, gold-rimmed under the golden royal crown . In the center is a naturally depicted eagle facing left on a blue globe above a round golden shield. Behind the shield, different weapons are shown symmetrically in pairs: two spears with silver tips, two golden curved swords and two arrows (silver) and bow (brown), plus two flags, horizontally black, white and green striped with a red triangle on the mast. Under the shield, three golden ears of wheat (right) and a palm leaf (left) are held together by a ribbon on which the green, red and gold, diamond-studded Jordanian Renaissance Order (Wisam al-Nahda), first class, hangs. Above the order is a yellow banner with the Arabic inscription Abdullah bin al-Hussein (left), King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (center), who hopes for help and success from God (right).

history

The coat of arms of the Hashimites already became the coat of arms of Transjordan in 1921 and in 1946 with the full independence of the country also the national coat of arms. The last change was made in 1999 when the name of the previous King Hussein was replaced by that of the current ruling Abdullah II .

symbolism

  • The Jordanian royal crown symbolizes the monarchy, it shows five temples and is set with rubies and emeralds, at the top there is a silver spearhead.
  • The coat of arms represents the Hashimite dynasty. The red velvet on the outside symbolizes sacrifice, the white silk inside, purity. The coat is fimbred in gold and is gathered by gold cords with four tassels.

  • The flags correspond to the national flag , but without the white star, and stand for the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. In various color arrangements, the flag of the Arab resistance became the model for many flags in the Arab world, for example the first version of the Iraqi flag .
  • The eagle represents strength, courage and prestige. The Jordanian embassy calls its color that of the flag of the Prophet Mohammed . However, the only flag that Mohammed used was a solid black; the eagle is actually depicted in natural colors. The eagle is an old heraldic symbol in Arabia, its model is the Saladin eagle , which can be found in many other national coats of arms of the region.
  • The globe is supposed to symbolize the spread of the Islamic religion and culture in the world.
  • The sign is a bronze plate with the arabesque representation of a Tagetes symbolize -Blüte and to the surrounding defense, and the fight for justice.
  • The Renaissance Order is the highest civil and military distinction in Jordan.
