The flag of Pakistan was designed by Ameer-ud-Din Khidwai and, when the country gained independence on August 14, 1947, it was adopted as the national flag by the constituent national assembly of Pakistan. The flag design comes from Syed Amir-uddin Kedwaii and is based on the flag of the All-India Muslim League .
The flag consists of a half-lying white crescent moon with a white five-pointed star against a dark green background. There is a wide white stripe on the left edge of the flag. The green field of the flag symbolizes the Muslims who make up the majority of the population in Pakistan . The white field stands for the non-Muslim minority in the country and was only added shortly before independence. The white crescent moon represents progress, the white star light and knowledge.
Construction of the flag
The graphic construction of the flag "with compass and ruler" is illustrated in the adjacent figure. The A: B ratio is 3: 2 and the C: D ratio is 1: 3. P1 forms the center of the green rectangle. Point P2 is determined by drawing a circle with radius 13 ⁄ 20 B and center in the upper right corner of the flag. The intersection of this circle with the diagonal axis of the green rectangle leading from the bottom left to the top right is point P2. With P1 as the center, a circle (C1) with radius 3 ⁄ 10 B is drawn and the second circle (C2) with P2 as the center and radius 11 ⁄ 40 B. The enclosed area forms the crescent moon. The five-pointed star is bounded by a circle with a radius of 1 ⁄ 10 B, which on the one hand touches point P1 and on the other hand the intersection of the diagonal with the circle C1.
