description

The flag shows a vertical red stripe on a white background. A blue stripe lies above it in the horizontal direction.

Five white, five-pointed stars are arranged in an oval at the intersection. They symbolize the five main islands of Bonaire , Curaçao , Saba , Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten .

history

The flag, still with six stars, was set for the first time on December 15, 1959. The sixth star symbolized Aruba , which however became a separate autonomous area in 1986. With the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on October 10, 2010, the flag is no longer officially used.
