The Władysław Reymont Airport in Łódź ( IATA : LCJ ; ICAO : EPLL ; also Łódź-Lublinek ) is the international airport in the central Polish city of Łódź . It is located about six kilometers southwest of the city center and had around 462,931 passengers in 2012. In 2018 there were only 217,426 passengers.

history

The airport opened on September 13, 1925.

In 1996 a new passenger terminal with a capacity of 50,000 passengers per year was opened. Since 1997, is Port Lotniczy Lodz Lublinek sp. z oo ( Flughafen Lodz-Lublinek GmbH ) operator of the airport. The city of Łódź holds 99.8% of the shares , the rest of the two aeroclubs Aeroklub Polski and Aeroklub Łódzki .

On October 31, 2002, the airport received an instrument landing system .

The airport was renamed in 2005 and has since been called Port lotniczy Łódź im. Władysława Reymonta after the Polish writer and Nobel Prize winner Władysław Reymont . In the same year, the temporary Terminal 2 opened with a capacity of 500,000 passengers per year, and the runway was extended to 2,100 m. In 2006, the slope was expanded again to 2,500 m.

In June 2012, the new Terminal 3 went into operation with a capacity of 1.5 to 2 million passengers. Terminal 2 was dismantled, sold to Radom and used to expand the airport there.

The low number of passengers led to criticism because of the inefficient use of EU funding. The opening of the A2 motorway to Warsaw in 2012 reduced the travel time by road to just about an hour, which is why the two airports in Warsaw have since been able to attract more passengers from the Łódź region.

With the start of the 2015 summer flight schedule, Adria Airways stationed a CRJ 900 at Łódź Airport to fly to Munich and other major airports. However, the connections were gradually phased out in the first half of 2017 before the airline closed its base in late June 2017 and left the airport. The reason for this was the termination of the contract by the airport.

Airlines and Destinations

Łódź is currently served by the low-cost airline Ryanair , which serves Dublin , East Midlands and London Stansted from here . Lufthansa also operates flights to Munich.

With the start of the 2019 winter flight schedule, Lufthansa removed the connection from Munich to Lodz from its program.
