Fountain Halle (Saale) on the Ziegelwiese in Halle an der Saale

The Halle fountain is located on the Ziegelwiese , an inland island west of the Saale and east of the Mühlgraben, in the Saaleaue district of the city of Halle (Saale) . It is the third highest in Europe.

The fountain was built and put into operation in 1968 on the occasion of the GDR's 10th Workers' Festival , which took place from June 14th to 16th. Located in the flooded area of the Saale, the drive and pump technology has been completely submerged twice over the years, so that operation was hardly possible any more. A private initiative (Friends of the Fountain) managed to collect a total of around € 250,000 in donations in kind and money between 2007 and 2009, which made it possible to completely renew the technology. The fountain has been in regular operation again since 2009.

The water fountain reaches a height of 80 meters with a pump motor output of 160 kilowatts. The pump output is up to 400 cubic meters per hour, the maximum pressure 10 bar.

The water basin - the fountain pond - is artificially created and has a capacity of approx. 25,000 cubic meters and an area of approx. 1 hectare. It was designed in the shape of an ellipse because of the prevailing wind conditions .

Since 2008 the fountain festival organized by the "Friends of the Fountain Hall" has taken place on the Ziegelwiese every September.
