A pond in the south-east of the Seeben district of Halle (Saale) is called a Seebener pond .
Until 1958, lignite was mined underground in the “Karl Ernst” mine in the north of the city . Over the years, the terrain above subsided. The pond was created by the groundwater and rainwater collecting in the depression.
Today the pond is a natural monument .
