The Saugraben is a left tributary of the Saale in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt.
course
The moat has its origin as open water east of the Nietleben district of the city of Halle (Saale) . It is approx. 3 kilometers long, flows almost completely in an easterly direction along the northern edge of the Neustadt district , crosses under the Gimritzer Damm street and flows into a side arm of the Saale in the urban area.
nature
The suction pit does not have water all year round. In the summer months it falls completely dry for longer periods. The artificial dewatering of the Bruchsee and, since 2014, the Heidesees as well as two overflows in the so-called Weinbergwiesen ponds to the north drain away in the suction trenches . A year-long renovation of the trench was completed in 2007.
