The Forreston Township is located in northern Illinois about 180 km west of Chicago . The Wisconsin border is around 25 miles north; the Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa , is about 45 km to the west.

The Forreston Township is located in the extreme northwest of Ogle County and is bordered to the west by Carroll and to the north by Stephenson County .
