The Monroe Township is one of 24 townships in Ogle County in the north of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois .

The Monroe Township is located in northern Illinois about 130 km west of Chicago . The Wisconsin border is around 45 km north; the Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa , is about 100 km to the west.

The Monroe Township is 42 ° 05'58 "north latitude and 88 ° 59'57" west longitude and extends over 93.8 km².

The Monroe Township is located in the extreme northeast of Ogle County and is bordered to the north by Winnebago County and to the east by DeKalb County , which is already part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Within Ogle County, Monroe Township borders on Lynnville Township in the south, White Rock Township in the southwest and Scott Township in the west .

The Interstate 39 runs through the Monroe Township in a north-south direction and leads here with US Highway 51 over the same route. Illinois State Route 72 crosses in the western center . All other roads are county highways as well as subordinate and partly unpaved roads.

A Canadian Pacific Railway runs parallel to State Route 72 and runs west from Chicago .

The nearest airport is Chicago Rockford International Airport, around 15 km northwest of the township, on the southern outskirts of Rockford .

At the 2010 census , the township had 1,563 inhabitants. In addition to scattered settlements, the Monroe Township is an independent municipality with the Monroe Center (with the status " Village ").
