François-Auguste-Ferdinand Donnet (born November 16, 1795 in Bourg-Argental , Archdiocese of Lyon , † December 23, 1882 in Bordeaux ) was Archbishop of Bordeaux and Cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Donnet studied from 1806 to 1813 in Annonay, then at the St. Irenaeus seminary in Lyon . On March 7, 1819, he was ordained a priest in Lyon . He initially worked as a priest in various cities and became vicar general of the Archdiocese of Tours in 1827 . With the local Archbishop Augustin Louis de Montblanc Donnet was in Rome in 1829 and became Vicar General in Lyon in July 1829.

In April 1835 Pope Gregory XVI appointed him . the coadjutor of since 1830 by the state hindered to officiate Bishop of Nancy , Charles-Auguste-Marie-Joseph de Forbin-Janson . He himself was ordained bishop on May 31, 1835, in Paris ; Co - consecrators were Romain-Frédéric Gallard , Bishop of Meaux , and Louis-Marie-Edmont Blanquart de Bailleul , Bishop of Versailles . However, Donnet never succeeded him in Nancy, as he became Archbishop of Bordeaux in 1836 and Forbin-Janson refused to formally resign until his death in 1844. Gregory's successor Pius IX. accepted him in the consistory of March 15, 1852 in the college of cardinals . Cardinal Donnet participated in the First Vatican Council and took positions close to the ultramontanists . After the Pope's death, he took part in the conclave of 1878 . He died in Bordeaux in 1882 at the age of 87 and was buried in Bordeaux Cathedral.
