Francesca Annis

Francesca Annis (born May 14, 1944 or 1945 in Kensington ) is a British actress .

Life

Francesca Annis originally wanted to enter a convent, but then decided to take up acting. She had engagements on many stages in England as an actress in spoken theater and musicals.

Annis became known to a wide audience for her numerous roles in feature films. As a teenager, she appeared in British productions such as the comedy Carry on Teacher . Her first international production was the monumental epic Cleopatra (1963), in which she played the faithful slave of Cleopatra ( Elizabeth Taylor ) as Eiras . She then played leading roles such as Lady Macbeth in Roman Polański's adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth or Lady Jessica Atreides in David Lynch's feature film version of Frank Herbert's science fiction classic Dune - The Desert Planet . Annis was often seen in film adaptations of Agatha Christie's detective novels . While she played a supporting role as a young actress at Margaret Rutherford's side in Four Women and a Murder in 1964 , she sparked off in the film adaptation of Why Didn't You Ask Evans? (1980, with John Gielgud among others ) as Lady Frances Derwent herself in the murder case. In 1983 she played the leading role of Tuppence Beresford in a crime series based on Agatha Christie, the Blunt detective agency . In addition, she was repeatedly in guest roles in television series such as B. Magnum and Simon Templar can be seen.

Annis was in a relationship with the photographer Patrick Wiseman for over 22 years, with whom she has three children (two daughters, one son). Between 1995 and 2006, fellow actor and Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes was her partner. On February 8, 2006, the 18-year-old Fiennes announced the breakup after a year-long affair between him and a singer became public.
