Frank Grupe

Frank Grupe (* 1952 in Hörstel ) is a German director , actor , radio play writer and dramaturge .

Life

Frank Grupe grew up in Bremen and took over roles in radio play productions as early as 1965, at the age of 14 he played in 1966 in the film The Head Waiter at Hans Korte's Side , and in 1968 he made his stage debut at the Waldau Theater . After graduating from high school, Grupe studied social sciences and has been working as a freelance actor since 1974. Engagements took him to theaters in Bonn, Bremen, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. Well-known roles were Garcin in Jean-Paul Sartre's Closed Society , Trufaldino in Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni or Tranio in William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew .

In 1984 Grupe began writing stage plays and radio plays and translating theater pieces. In 1985 he founded the independent theater group Schall und Rauch together with Helen De Lon , which played various in-house productions and plays by groups. In 1988 he worked as a director at theaters in Bremen, Flensburg and Hamburg, as well as staging radio plays and features for the North German Broadcasting Corporation and Radio Bremen . Since 2011 he has written the books for several episodes of the radio series Düsse Petersens .

In the season 1988/89 Frank Grupe worked as a dramaturge at the Waldau-Theater, in 1991 he founded the Theater Aalen together with Udo Schoen , where he worked as a dramaturge, director and actor until 1996. From 1993 to 1999 he was the director and artistic director responsible for the staging of the festival in the Alte Bastei in Nördlingen; in 1993 he was responsible for the dramaturgy for the staging of Mozart's Magic Flute at the opera festival in Heidenheim, and in 1995 Grupe Edward Albee's Wer hat Angst vor Virginia Woolf? at the Stuttgart theater in the west.

In 1997 Grupe came to the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater and has worked there as chief dramaturge and director ever since. During this time he also staged The Diary of Anne Frank at the Altona Theater in 2001 and in 2002 directed the Störtebeker open-air theater in Marienhafe in East Frisia .
