Franz Friedrich Jakob von Podewils (born November 27, 1779 in Kalmreuth , † October 8, 1842 in Germersheim ) was a royal Bavarian colonel and commander of the Germersheim Fortress .
Life
Franz Friedrich Jakob von Podewils, hereditary lord on Kalmreuth, came from the Baron Family Podewils . He was the son of the Brandenburg-Bayreuth captain Adam Christoph Friedrich von Podewils (1749–1795) and his wife Eleonore Elisabetha born. von Waldenfels (1757–1827). His sister Antoinette (1792–1875) married Philipp Franz von Walther (1782–1849), the personal physician to King Ludwig I of Bavaria .
As a young man, Franz Friedrich Jakob von Podewils joined the Bavarian Army and took part in the coalition wars as a cavalryman . For bravery as a captain in 7th Bay. Franz Friedrich Jakob von Podewils was married to Sophie von Reitzenstein (1786–1814) since 1802 . After her death in 1816 he married Bernhardine von Schubärt (1792–1873). A total of 7 children were born from both marriages. Most famous son was Lieutenant General Philipp von Podewils (1809-1885), inventor of the Podewils rifle , his brother Friedrich von Podewils (1804-1863) was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly and President of Upper Franconia. A grandson of the youngest son Konstantin von Podewils (1820–1887) was the Bavarian Interior Minister Clemens von Podewils-Dürniz (1850–1922).
