Franz XA Zipperer

Franz XA Zipperer (born April 3, 1952 in Bad Bodendorf ; † August 31, 2015 in Berlin ) was a German music journalist and photographer . He wrote for German and Swiss magazines and daily newspapers.

From 1958 to 1962 he attended elementary school in Sinzig , then switched to the modern language and mathematical and natural science high school in Ahrweiler , where he graduated from high school in June 1970 . After completing his military service , he studied education , political science , sociology and philosophy, first at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , and later at the University of Cologne . There he passed the examination as a qualified pedagogue for adult education in 1977 . He then worked at the Wuppertal City Library , the local culture office and the adult education center. He was the head of the pilot project “Kulturladen Uellendahl ”. Since 1986 he has helped to set up the Zakk communications center in Düsseldorf . There he organized performances in the fields of theater, cabaret and music until the 1990s. During this time he was a member of the theater council of the city of Düsseldorf and a member of the jury for the award of the music prize. As a competent citizen, he was also a member of the culture committee of the city of Erkrath . After a time as a freelance artist agent (including for Pieter Dirk Uys and The Tokyo Shock Boys), he worked for Saalbau GmbH in Frankfurt am Main in the fields of cabaret and music. At that time he was a member of the jury for the Munich Paulaner Solo Cabaret Prize . Since 1998 he worked for the Cologne agency “K3-Kulturkonsortium” Cologne and was involved in marketing for the radio stations 1 Live (WDR) and hr3 . Since 2002 he has been working as a freelance music journalist. In 2003 he was the editor and author of the wind magazine "clarino.print", for whose graphic and content relaunch he was also responsible.

Zipperer, who last lived in Berlin, died on August 31, 2015 at the age of 63.

Journalistic

As a student he wrote sporadically for the Rhein-Zeitung , published in Koblenz ; he continued this activity since 2005. In Wuppertal he was a founding partner of the "Wupper-Nachrichten", which has since been discontinued. During his time in Düsseldorf he wrote record reviews for the city magazines "Viertausend" and "You & ME", as well as cultural contributions for the Neue Ruhr Zeitung / Neue Rhein Zeitung (NRZ). During his years in Frankfurt, his program "Kitsch Catch Comedy" ran on the Wiesbaden radio station Radio Rheinwelle. In 2011 he was appointed to the “jazz: kritik” jury of the Darmstadt Jazz Institute . In addition, he wrote short biographies of artists for music publishers, in other words the “laundry slips” that accompany the CDs sent to journalists. Together with three other music journalists, he founded the music magazine Schall in 2015, which is only devoted to productions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Zipperer wrote for Jazzthetik , Sonic-Wood & Brass-, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa), Nitro, Westzeit ( WDR ), Piranha, KING, audiophil , taz , Folker , Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung , SLAM , as well as the Swiss magazines Faces , Jazz'n 'more and rckstr. On the Hamburg radio station TIDE 96.0 and the Berlin radio ALEX he had a one-hour radio broadcast once a month entitled "Sound Traveler - around the world in 80 bars."
