Wilhelm Josef Franz von Krane , since 1878 Freiherr von Krane-Matena (born August 20, 1810 in Dortmund , † September 30, 1896 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

He was the son of the Prussian major Franz von Krane (1780-1820) and his wife Henriette, born von Rappard (1775-1817), a daughter of the Higher Regional Court President Friedrich Wilhelm Berthold von Rappard (1748-1833) from Hamm .

Career

Krane visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . Subsequently, on August 28, 1827, he was transferred as a non-commissioned officer to the 16th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army and was promoted to secondary lieutenant by the end of July 1831 . In 1838 he was assigned to the rifle factory in Saarn . On April 1, 1842, he was appointed adjutant of the III. Battalions in the 16th Landwehr Infantry Regiment to Meschede . In mid-April 1847 he was aggregated to his main regiment as prime lieutenant . Two years later he rose to the position of company commander in III. Battalion and took part in the battles at Alminde , Veile , Viuf and Aarhus during the war against Denmark .

After the war he was transferred to the 36th Infantry Regiment on August 14, 1849 and appointed captain and company commander on December 9, 1851 . On January 18, 1859, he was promoted to major and transferred to Posen as commander of the 1st Battalion in the 18th Landwehr Regiment . Subsequently, on May 8, 1860, he was commanded as a battalion leader of the 18th Combined Infantry Regiment, from which the 3rd Posensche Infantry Regiment No. 58 emerged on July 1, 1860 . Krane received command of the 1st Battalion and rose to lieutenant colonel in mid-March 1863 . On April 3, 1866, he was a commander in the 4th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment. 21 were added and in this capacity on 8 June 1866. Colonel appointed. His regiment led Krane in the war against Austria in the battles near Gitschin and Königgrätz in 1866 and received the Crown Order III for his behavior . Class with swords. He took part in the sieges of Strasbourg and Belfort as well as the battles at the Lisaine and at Villersexel . Awarded with both classes of the Iron Cross , Krane returned to the inactive relationship on March 25, 1871, being awarded the character of Major General.

Due to proven claims, Krane received the right to use the Prussian baron title with the addition of "Matena" for himself and his family on March 6, 1878 . On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the award of his Iron Cross, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with swords, on January 9, 1896 . He died in the same year on September 30, 1896 in Frankfurt am Main.

Krane married Marianne Freiin von Krane (1815-1892) on April 25, 1842 in Darmstadt. The couple had several children:
