Johan Fredrik Lidvall ( Russian Фёдор Иванович Лидваль ; born May 20, . Jul / 1. June  1870 . Greg in St. Petersburg ; † 14. March 1945 in Stockholm ) was a Russian - Swedish architect .

Life

Lidvall's father Jun Petter Lidvall (1827–1886) came to St. Petersburg from Hälsingland in 1859 , where he became a well-known tailor with the tailoring shop Iwan Petrowitsch Lidvall and sons and purveyor to the court . Lidvall's mother was Ida Amalia Fleschau (1844–1915), born in St. Petersburg, whose parents were the Swede Eva Lakstrem from Finland and the Danish carpenter Balthasar Fleschau from Slagelse . Lidvall had four brothers and two sisters.

Lidvall attended the Swedish-German primary school at the Swedish Lutheran Katharinenkirche in St. Petersburg with graduation in 1882 and then the 2nd St. Petersburg Realschule with graduation in 1888. For two years he studied at the technical drawing school of Baron Alexander von Stieglitz . During the holidays, Lidvall, like his brothers, served twice in the Royal Bodyguard Regiment in Stockholm. 1890-1896 Lidvall studied in the architecture department of the art college at the Imperial Academy of the Arts . There he worked in the studio of Leonti Nikolajewitsch Benois from 1894–1896 and graduated in 1896 as an artist- architect .

Lidvall became a member of the St. Petersburg Architects' Association in 1899. 1907 awarded him the Special Commission for the distribution of prizes for the best facade in St. Petersburg the silver medal for the facade of the house NA Melzer at the corner of Bolshaya Konyushennaya Ulitsa and Volynsky Pereulok and an honorary diploma for the facade of the apartment building AF carpenter at the corner Kamennoostrowski Prospekt and Vologodskaja Ulitsa, which he had built together with Andrei Fjodorowitsch Niedermaier. In 1909 Lidvall became a member of the Academy of Arts and thus an academic in architecture. According to his projects, more than 30 buildings were built in St. Petersburg.

1910-1917 taught Lidvall in 1906 and decorated by Nikolai Leonidovich Shchukin led Higher Polytechnic courses for women in St. Petersburg. He participated in the publication of the magazine for architecture and art. He was a member of many architectural competition commissions and took part in many competitions, such as the competition for the noble house on St. Petersburg's Italyanskaya Ulitsa 27, which the Kosjakov brothers won. In 1912, Lidvall took part in the closed competition of the Southwest Railway for the project of the building of the Kiev Central Railway Station , in which he received the second prize, and in the competition of the Ministry of Transportation and the Academy of Arts for the project of renovation of the building of the Nikolai- Train station in St. Petersburg (both competitions were won by Vladimir Alexeyevich Shchuko ). Along with Georgi Antonovich Kossjakow led Lidvall 1915 two projects for the Volga - Kama - Bank by: the bank building in Tbilisi , built by PA Surabjanow, and the Volga-Kama Bank Building in Kiev , Khreshchatyk 10, built by Pavel Sergeyevich Andreyev . In the same year, Lidvall planned with Ieronim Sevastjanowitsch Kitner the construction of a house for the single workers of the Lyswa ironworks , which was then built by the ironworks architect Zhdanow .

After the October Revolution , Lidvall was expropriated and had to leave for Stockholm, where he had sent his family a year earlier. He was married to Margarete Frederike Eilers (1885–1962), whose father Hermann Friedrich Eilers had come to St. Petersburg from East Frisia and had become an important gardener and florist. Lidvall's brother-in-law Konstantin Hermanowitsch Eilers was an architect and built the Hotel Astoria in St. Petersburg from 1911 to 1912 based on Lidvall's project. Lidvall had two sons Sven Johan and Anders Erik and a daughter Ingrid. According to his daughter's memory, Lidvall felt isolated in Sweden and suffered from the loss of creative building opportunities. He worked in the architectural office Östlihn & Stark and stayed with Stark when he left the office.
