Friedrich Franz Graf von Waldersee (born December 17, 1829 in Berlin , † October 6, 1902 in Schwerin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Friedrich Franz was a grandson of Count Franz Waldersee (1763–1823), an illegitimate son of the Prince (from 1806 Duke ) Leopold III. von Anhalt-Dessau from a connection with Johanne Eleonore Hoffmeier. He was the fourth of six children of the Prussian cavalry general Franz Heinrich von Waldersee (1791–1873) and his wife Bertha Wilhelmine Friederike, born von Hünerbein (born March 20, 1799 in Berlin; † January 24, 1859 in Posen). Since 1897 the family seat of the von Waldersee family has been at Waterneverstorff Castle in the Waterneverstorf district of the Behrensdorf community .

Military career

Waldersee attended the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin and then joined the Kaiser Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 of the Prussian Army as a fusilier on August 13, 1848 . During the revolution of 1849 he and his regiment were involved in the suppression of street fighting in Dresden . In the further course of his military career, Waldersee switched from infantry to cavalry in 1857 and on December 18, 1864 he became captain and squadron chief in Dragoon Regiment No. 6 . As such, he took part in the German War in 1866 in the battles near Dermbach , Hammelburg , Roßbrunn and Uettingen as well as the bombardment of Würzburg . Waldersee received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords, for his achievements .

On May 2, 1870 he was promoted to major and used as a staff officer during the war against France in 1870/71. Waldersee was in the battles of Gravelotte and Noisseville and the siege of Metz , for which he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class.

On September 22, 1874, Waldersee was entrusted with the command of the Uhlan Regiment No. 13 , promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 18, 1875 and finally appointed regimental commander on June 15, 1875. In this function he was promoted to colonel on April 18, 1878 . As such, Waldersee was placed à la suite of the regiment on May 15, 1883 and appointed commander of the 6th Cavalry Brigade in Brandenburg an der Havel . The following year he returned to Hanover and became the city's commander on March 14, 1884 and major general on April 15, 1884 . On August 4, 1888, he was awarded the character of Lieutenant General and, in recognition of his services, was awarded the star for the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on September 21, 1889 . On May 16, 1891 Waldersee was awarded the star. To Red Eagle II Class with oak leaves with board for disposition made.

He died of a heart attack and was buried in Hanover in the Engesohder cemetery .

On May 19, 1863, Waldersee married Geraldine Freiin von Ende in Alt-Jeßnitz (born November 22, 1843 in Dresden ; † January 20, 1919 in Coswig ). The couple had two sons:
