Friedrich Schönborn
Friedrich Erwein Maria Carl Franz Graf von Schönborn (born September 11, 1841 in Dlažkovice near Prague , † December 21, 1907 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician.
He belonged to the Bohemian branch of the Counts of the Schönborn , which belonged to the Rhenish nobility . From 1864 to 1872 he studied law at the University of Prague and then entered the civil service. He published several legal writings, ran unsuccessfully for the Reichsrat in 1880 and was appointed to the State Court of Justice in the same year . From 1881 he was a member of the manor house. From 1881 to 1888 he was governor in Moravia and then until 1895 Minister of Justice under Taaffe and Windisch-Grätz . In this role, he relied primarily on the lawyers Emil Steinbach and Franz Klein . He came out against excessive restrictions on the freedom of the press and tried to be objectivity in appointing judges. He played a major role in the German-Czech compromise of 1890. From 1895 to 1907 he was president of the Administrative Court. From 1901 to 1907 he was a member of the management of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna . He also belonged to the anti- duel movement and was an honorary member of the Catholic student association KÖStV Austria Vienna
His honorary grave is in the Dornbacher Friedhof (group 1A, number 1A) in Vienna.
