Frederick I (Cilli)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich I (* around 1300 ; † 1359 ) was born suitor of Sanneck and from 1341 the first count of Cilli . He was also governor of Krain and Windischen Mark from 1332 to 1350 and Vogt of Oberburg Abbey from 1337 to 1352 .

Life

Friedrich was the son of Ulrich von Sanneck († around 1316) and Countess Katharina von Heunburg († after 1315).

When the Counts of Heunburg died out in 1322, he acquired huge estates, castles and lordships, but was also able to increase the property and prestige of his house through his own determination and consolidation of the legacy of his childless father brothers. As a result, he was raised to the rank of imperial count on April 16, 1341 in Munich by Emperor Ludwig IV with the predicate Count von Cilli, including his heirs and descendants .

In 1351 he fought with Herdeggen von Pettau about the Katzenstein Castle.

In 1358 Frederick was at the papal court in Avignon on behalf of Duke Albrecht II and King Ludwig I of Hungary . At that time Johann von Neuberg was in his entourage .

Feud for Cilli

After the Heunburgers, who died out in the male line in 1322, half of Cilli (castle, market, court, vassals, servants, etc.) fell to Frederick as inheritance, while the second half was given to Count Ulrich V. von Pfannberg .

But now Konrad von Auffenstein , captain and marshal in Carinthia, also raised claims on the Heunburg inheritance and now it happened that Elisabeth, who as the widow of the last Heunburg Count Hermann, had no inheritance claims to make, together with Ulrich von Pfannberg half of Friedrich pledged to Cilli in 1323 to the Auffensteiner.

Friedrich now conducted long but fruitless negotiations with Konrad about the return of the pledge; but he had already taken possession of it and did not want to give it up in his expansionist efforts. The Sannecker now had to fear for his position of power in the Sanntal .

Probably only in 1327 a feud of several years with robbery, fire and manslaughter broke out. On Konrad's side were Count Meinhard I. von Ortenburg , captain in Krain and the Windischen Mark, and his son Hermann, by marriage to Konrad; Friedrich relied on his brother-in-law Ulrich von Walsee -Graz, captain of Styria:

In 1330 Friedrich pledged all of his forts and dominions for 8,000 marks Pfennigs to Ulrich von Walsee and made him the main participant in the feud; Ulrich von Pfannberg, on the other hand, was able to stay out of the feud.

At the end of September 1331, probably through the mediation of Duke Otto of Austria , peace was concluded at the decision of an arbitrator, according to which Konrad had to cede his half of Cilli to Friedrich in exchange for the return of the original pledge amount of 250 silver marks, which also happened in 1332.

The Pfannberg half of Cillis probably came to Friedrich in 1335 when Ulrich von Pfannberg needed money for his Bamberg rule in Carinthia; because in 1341 Friedrich was the sole owner of Cilli.

Friedrich was married to Diemut von Walsee († 1353/57), daughter of Ulrich I. von Walsee († 1329). Children:
